Clover Conversations Ep 07: Dr. Luke Lemke on Lifestyle Medicine
What does living a healthy life look like?
What diet is best for me?
How do I deal with chronic stress?
My sleep is terrrrrible!
Should l drink that glass of red wine?
Social media is making me feel isolated!
If you’ve ever experienced one of these thoughts, I say to you with a wink and very light touch of sarcasm, welcome to being human?! But in all seriousness, maybe you’ve experienced one of these thoughts today. You are certainly NOT alone in that. These are some of the questions I ponder, and it’s why today we are talking about LIFESTYLE MEDICINE, which seeks to provide some answers.
Sometimes it can feel complicated to know what’s healthy and what’s not: we live in a landscape of information that is filled with junk science and influencers telling us what to do to be healthy.
Today we turn to Dr. Luke Lemke, a second generation family medicine physician based in Columbus, NE. He has over 35+ years of experience treating patients from birth through death and this insight brings a lot of wisdom to the table.
Most recently, Dr. Lemke became board certified in Lifestyle Medicine via The American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Today’s episode focuses on the 6 pillars of lifestyle medicine:
Nutrition
Movement
Sleep
Substance Use
Stress Reduction
Social Connectedness
Dr. Lemke’s son is married to my sister. Thus, over the years we’ve been able to swap our favorite podcasts (Hi, Rich Roll Podcast!), books and general wellness interests. Clover Conversations has given me the platform to really highlight his knowledge and share it on a bigger scale. In today’s conversation, we underscrore the importance of preventative medicine and the ways in which we can feel like our best selves. This episode is intentionally coming to you early in 2024 with the hope that you can reflect on these pillars in your life and move into the new year with one action item that will improve your life, be it big or small.
Dr. Lemke offers us insight into the ways we can practically improve our health. I’d encourage you to take a look at some of the resources he provides during this conversation. Dr. Lemke is a world class story teller, you’ll definitely enjoy this one.
