Gram's Green Rolls
In honor of Thanksgiving, I’m sharing a recipe that is near and dear to my heart: Gram’s green rolls. My Grandma Schultz made these rolls every year for Thanksgiving. She died a month before Scott and I got married in 2020 and I really miss her. So, to honor her, I’m sharing one of her trademark recipes. One that makes all of my cousin’s drool. They’re that good. Some recipes are for health and some are to make your heart happy. This is the latter. I’ve made one change to my Grandma’s original recipe: vegan butter! Would she cringe? No, she was so open-minded that in the late years of her life (age 97/98) she made Scott and I vegan dishes, so I think she’d find this adjustment “pretty neat” if I had to guess. So, here is a mouth-watering roll recipe that is super easy to whip up! Not just on Thanksgiving, but any time of year! Enjoy.
I love using these two products from Great Jones. Shown here is the Dutch Baby oven and the Holy Sheet baking sheet!
Ingredients
Rhodes Frozen Bread (1 batch= 2 loaves)
1 stick of unsalted butter (I used Earth Balance vegan sticks) per 2 loaves worth of rolls
1 Tbsp Garlic Salt
2 Tbsp Garlic Powder
1/2 c. Dried Parsley
Directions
Follow the directions on the Rhodes package for letting the dough thaw and rise. When the dough has risen, roll into the size roll you desire. Remember, they will double in size. I prefer small rolls to make them a nice size to pop in your mouth! When you’ve rolled your rolls, melt butter and add seasonings to a dutch oven or deep pan on low heat. Mix everything together and turn off stove once everything is incorporated and melted. Dip each roll into the mixture and coat well. Then place on baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes. I let a few batches go to 13 minutes for slightly browned bottoms but you can play with it. These are really amazing right out of the oven!
Let me know if you make these! Happy Thanksgiving, friends!
